Our School Council

Every year our school councillors are elected by their peers in the Autumn Term.

They have a campaign period to persuade their classmates to vote for them and then balloting is held in the school hall, after which the winner are announced.

Each year the school council are involved in important fundraising events for the school, including MacMillan Coffee Morning, Children in Need, Red Nose Day and other local charity events.

Visit to Houses of Parliament

On Tuesday 17th January our KS2 Giffard Park school councillors met bright and early at Milton Keynes train station ready for a trip to London. The children were all very excited to take a train and two underground trains all the way to the Houses of Parliament.

When we arrived at the Houses of Parliament, we were all given a head set ready for our tour of Parliament. We were very lucky to be able to go into the House of Lords, the robing room, the royal gallery and Westminster Hall. The children learned lots about what happens in each of these rooms and how laws are created and agreed within the Houses of Parliament.

After our tour the children had a workshop in the Education centre at the Houses of Parliament. The children learned more about laws and debating and had a very important debate about pineapple belonging on pizza! At the end of our workshop we were incredibly lucky to meet the MP of Milton Keynes Ben Everitt for a Q&A session. Where the children were able to find out more about his role and laws that may affect them directly.

The children then had their lunch and enjoyed the tube and train journey home again! We are very proud of how well our school councillors represented Giffard Park School. They behaved beautifully and were fantastic role models.
