Survival Day at Linford Manor Park
To launch our Summer term topic 'Great Explorers' all children in KS1 have visited Linford Manor Park this week to take part in a 'survival' day organised and run by the Parks Trust.
The day began by the children being set a challenge to make a shelter in the woods using ropes and tarpaulins, their shelter had to fit all members of their group inside and needed to survive the water test! The children were very inventive in the shelters that they created. As well as shelter building, the children also explored other essential elements for survival including identifying wild food and water sources. The children had the task of filtering dirty water from the canal to make it as clean as possible, lots of groups came up with many different ways to do this and showed great team work!
The day taught us lots about the key skills for survival and was a great start to our topic!
